Results of Astana Media Week-2021

On September 27 and 28, 2021, the annual event «Astana Media Week-2021» took place. AMW-2021 is the fifth annual event for the most viable ideas, avant-garde solutions, progressive opinions. A place where points of view are challenged and defended by people who seek to make the picture of the world a little clearer.

Astana Media Week-2021 lasted two days. The events were held equally both online and offline. The event was attended by top managers of authoritative world media, representatives of the state apparatus, well-known journalists, documentary filmmakers and bloggers from the USA, Austria, Switzerland, Ukraine, Great Britain, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
On the first day, 10 events took place. Internet users could connect to several round tables and master classes on September 27. All events were held in a mixed format and were broadcast live on the official website of the media week 35 speakers from Kazakhstan, Russia, Great Britain, USA, Kyrgyzstan, and Ukraine took part in the events of the first day.
The first major event of the media week was the round table «Special aspects of critical social issues». State and public figures, representatives of the media and the blogosphere gathered for the discussion. 1069 unique users were connected to the broadcast.

The online conference «Media development strategies» brought together the opinions of experts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. The participants of the event - the heads of the largest media resources spoke about the need to transform the media, about the modernization of the system for the dissemination of objective and verified data. 1698 users logged in to view the session.

One of the most watched events of Astana Media Week-2021 took place online - the round table «Documentary films: experience and future». Representatives of different countries, schools, views and generations have gathered here. The conversation was joined by documentary filmmakers, heads of TV channels, major studios, officials from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, and the United States. The event received 1,356 unique views.

The round table «The future of Kazakh-language publishing houses», full of discussions, gathered 469 views. Ratings, personalities and new horizons of print media became the topics of the event. Officials, heads of republican publications, journalists joined the dialogue.
The program of the event also included a series of master classes from leading experts in the creation of television and radio projects, heads of news offices, press services, bloggers. The headliner in terms of educational content was Radislav Gandapas - business trainer, President of the Association of CIS Speakers.

The second day began with a round table «Mass media development during the period of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan». People who stood at the origins of Kazakhstani journalism spoke about the development of Kazakhstani television, the creation of the Union of Journalists, and the problems of personnel training. 784 viewers joined the morning broadcast.
Later, an event at a high international level took place - a panel discussion « Society and the media in a new, post-covid world». Experts from three countries took part in it: Kazakhstan, Switzerland, and Austria. The panelists expressed their views on how society is changing today, and what modern media should be like through the prism of these changes. One of the best viewership indicators is 1574 users.

Within the framework of the round table «Advertising media market of the Republic of Kazakhstan: current situation, prospects of future development, issues and solutions », experts shared the current situation in the advertising media market based on the results of the first half of 2021. The event was watched by 1248 people.

For the first time, Formats Day was held during AMW, an event in which representatives of the European distributor of television content «Fremantle», producer and distributor of films and television programs «Sony Pictures», American mass media Company «Nbc / Universal» held presentations of their best products. , «Global Agency» - distributor of TV products and media company «Kiss Media». Within the framework of Astana Media Week-2021, pitching of scripts of social videos «Biz birgemiz!» took place. The event was organized by «Khabar Agency» JSC. More than ten Kazakhstani producers and screenwriters took part in the project. In total, 20 scenarios were submitted, but only 9 participants passed the qualifying stage and presented their ideas.
Based on the results of the pitching, Ainur Asylbekkyzy was declared the winner in the «Family values» ​​category. The best screenwriter in the «Ecology» category was Limara Bekturganova. The winner on the topic «Financial literacy» - Suleimen Nurdaulet. The finished videos of the winners will be broadcast by the TV channels «Khabar» and «Khabar 24».

Discussion of scenarios for future series took place during the pitching organized by the JSC «Republican Television and Radio Corporation «Kazakhstan». Here, representatives of domestic production studios presented ideas and proposals for new series for 2022. In the competition, which is held within the framework of Astana Media Week-2021, 21 companies have applied. Television works are dedicated to: historical figures of Kazakhstan, propaganda of the historical heritage of ancestors, rural life, the spiritual capital - Turkestan, compatriots who returned to their homeland, rescuers, the promotion of sports, folk crafts, national and family values.

In the early years, AMW was held offline. The maximum number of participants was about 500 people. In the past two years, due to quarantine restrictions, the event held online. New technical capabilities led to significant increase on the total amount of viewers.

For two days of Astana Media Week-2021, more than 10 thousand people watched the broadcasts. Users from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, USA, Turkey, Belarus, Ireland, United Arab Emirates, France, Spain, Georgia, Czech Republic, and Estonia have connected to the views. The audience of 25-34 took the majority - 49%. 70 speakers from Kazakhstan, Switzerland, Austria, Kyrgyzstan, USA, Great Britain and Russia took part in the online and offline media week. 12 authors presented their master classes.

Of course, from the point of view of the effectiveness of communications, there is a great interest of the members of the media community to hold such events offline.
